About the Film
The First Hymn brings the oldest known Christian hymn to life on the big screen.
The film traces the discovery of an ancient hymn fragment, the scholarly effort to reconstruct its melody, and the musicians who restored it so modern audiences can hear what early Christians once sang.
Why It Matters
This hymn predates the Council of Nicaea and reveals that early believers were joyfully worshiping the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit generations before formal creeds were written.
It offers a powerful glimpse into the faith, conviction, and worship of the early church — a church that sang in the face of opposition.
From the beginning, the church has been a singing church.
Special Guest: Dr. John Dickson – Live Q&A
The evening will include a live Q&A with Dr. John Dickson — historian, author, and founder of Undeceptions — joining us in person after the film.
